He played and recorded with some of the best cuban artists including Irakere, the Symphony Orchestra of Cuba, the legendary album with Vitaly y su Timba Habanera, Omara Portuondo, Los Van Van, Paulo FG, Isaac Delgado, Carlos Manuel y Su Clan or Manolín El Medico De La Salsa just to name a few. There he joined the Grupo Danson, a band mixed between Cuban and Danish musicians and with them released the album “Mi Musica” sparking in him the desire to create his own band. In 2008 Alexander Abreu formed Havana D’Primera, a group of musicians from the most prominent Cuban Timba orchestras, and released the first album, titled “Haciendo Historia” which marks the first major U.S. release by a new Cuban dance band in 10 years and the revival of TIMBA. Havana D Primera musicians are some of the most sought out in Cuba and played with the top bands during the dance music explosion of the 1990!"#$ They are undisputedly the most popular dance band in Cuba today with the highest audience draws of the island. The musical elements in this CD range from straight-up salsa and Timba to Son, Pilon, Funk and Jazz. Abreu has appeared in Europe’s top music festivals and in 2002 he performed on stage with Sting, Lou Reed and James Brown for the benefit concert “Pavarotti & Friends.” He has contributed to a record number of recording worldwide and Havana D’Primera orchestra, in its four years only has been participating in more than one hundred and fifty concerts in Europe and more that fifty in Latin America.
